How to make and eat Bulgarian pancakes

In Bulgaria we’ve never celebrated pancake day. But we have, and still do, celebrate the concept of family and this is mostly what pancakes are about for us. Bulgarian pancakes are much more than merely food: we eat them on Saturday or Sunday morning when the family is together. We share a laugh and talk about our weeks, sharing private matters that most of the western world these days considers unimaginable to discuss.

We use home made toppings and sprinkle crashed white cheese (because we love this thing!)

To teach you everything about Bulgarian pancakes we created a little video that shows you how to make them (from scratch) and how to eat them the Bulgarian way.

Ingredients for Bulgarian pancakes (makes 7)

  • 3 eggs;
  • 400ml whole milk;
  • 2 cups white flour;
  • pinch of salt;
  • 2 table spoons of sunflower oil.

You’ll also need unsalted butter, home-made jam, and white cheese (in the UK you can buy this from the local Turkish or International store. The rest of the info you’ll find in the video. Enjoy!
